Illinois Corn Marketing Board playing offense with Super Bowl advertising campaign

The Illinois Corn Marketing Board will use a new advertising campaign on Super Bowl Sunday to show consumers that not all heroes wear helmets.

Chairman Roger Sy tells Brownfield they will air a 30 second brand anthem video titled “Illinois Runs on Homegrown Corn” in five major Illinois TV markets. He says it will contradict the negative corn syrup add run by Anheuser-Busch last year.

“By telling how farmers are being conventional, doing new management techniques, are working to become sustainable, to grow the best, most efficient, most economical and safest products we can.”

He says the campaign is something requested by Illinois farmers and checkoff contributors.

“We need to be out in front and we need to let the consumers and the end purchasers of our product know what is really going on. So, we figured this was probably one of the biggest ways we could make that happen.”

The Illinois Corn team will also be posting ads on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter when the commercial runs using hashtag #FieldGoals and pointing consumers to learn more about farmer perspectives on current farm and food issues at watchusgrow.org/fieldgoals. Sy says they are encouraging farmers to use the hashtag during the game and share why they are proud to grow Illinois corn.
