Illinois harvest falls slightly behind average as crop conditions improve

Illinois farmers made progress on corn and soybean harvest last week, but both are progressing slightly behind the 5-year average.

The USDA reports as of Sunday 10% of corn is harvested compared to 13% on average. 81% of the crop has reached maturity and the agency rates the crop 62% good to excellent, a 7-point improvement on the week.

Soybean harvest is 6% complete, compared to 7% on average. 85% of the crop is dropping leaves and the USDA rates it 60% good to excellent, up 6 points on the week.

Winter wheat planting is running ahead of average pace at 10% complete.
