Iowa Corn says crop insurance needs protected in upcoming farm bill

The president of the Iowa Corn Growers Association says lawmakers need to protect important safety net measures in the 2023 Farm Bill.

Jolene Riessen tells Brownfield producers depend on risk management tools like crop insurance. “We’re trying to make sure that our crop insurance is there for farmers, especially this year with the drought. I’m in the fields and I have fields that are going to be in losses and thank goodness that I have crop insurance. That’s going to help me out.”

She tells Brownfield it can help keep farmers in business. “Especially if you’re a young farmer because inputs are expensive, so we need all the help that we can get out here.”

Riessen says Iowa Corn is also calling for an increase in funding for trade programs.
