Iowa corn, soybean harvests remain behind average

Programs ICON

Iowa corn and soybean producers made some harvest progress last week, but damp, foggy weather did limit activity. The state office of the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service says many are waiting for crops to dry down in the field before harvesting.

As of Sunday, 97% of corn has reached maturity, a day faster than the five year average, and 33% has been harvested, almost a week slower than the typical pace, and the average moisture content is 18%. 82% of Iowa’s corn is in good to excellent condition.

96% of soybeans are dropping leaves, matching the average, and 62% is harvested, six days behind normal.

95% of the state has adequate to surplus soil moisture.
