Iowa corn, soybeans in good shape

Iowa’s office of the National Ag Statistics Service says last week’s rainfall was generally beneficial, but there was some hail and wind damage reported to crops and buildings. 85% of the state has adequate or surplus soil moisture levels.

81% of the corn crop is rated good to excellent and 67% is silking, a week ahead of average.

80% of soybeans are called good to excellent. 66% is blooming and 20% has reached the pod setting stage, both five days faster than normal.

The second cutting of alfalfa is at 79% and the third cutting is at 6%.
