Iowa farmer begins planting corn

The planting season started Monday for an eastern Iowa farmer.

Lance Lillibridge raises corn, alfalfa, and red angus cattle in Benton County.

“We got some 70 degree temperatures coming up with lows that will stay above 50,” he said. “That makes me feel better about the investment I’m about to make in putting seed into the ground.”

He tells Brownfield soil conditions are optimal. “We’re dry up on top where we will plant the seed with some moisture a couple of inches down. I think we’re adequate.

Lillibridge says expectations are high after having one of his best corn crops ever in 2022.
