Iowa farmer finishes soybean harvest

Soybean harvest has wrapped up for northwest Iowa farmer Kelly Nieuwenhuis.

“It went quick,” he said. “Around here it was dry. Beans were 8% which was disappointing towards the end. With no rain in the forecast, we kept going.”

He tells Brownfield yields have been a mixed bag. “It ranged from 40 bushels to over 70. We saw everything. Just an eight-mile distance made about 30 bushel difference in yield.”

Nieuwenhuis says he started harvesting corn on Wednesday. He farms in O’Brien County.
