Iowa’s crops need some warmer weather

Recent rains have improved the crop outlook in Iowa–now they need some warmer weather.

The state’s corn and soybean crops are both running close to a week-and-a-half behind normal in their development. Corn denting, at 21 percent, is nine days behind average. Pod setting on soybeans is at 84 percent, 12 days behind normal.

This week’s good to excellent rating on corn is at 65 percent, with soybeans at 62 percent.

The third cutting of alfalfa reached 49 percent, 11 days behind average. Hay condition rated 57 percent good to excellent.
