It’s taken two years, but Nebraska farmer thrilled that rain stalled planting

A Southeast Nebraska farmer says wet weather has delayed corn planting.

Logan Bredemeier tells Brownfield that hasn’t happened in two years due to on-going drought. “I’d rather have them parked because of moisture over cold weather instead.”

He says he’s planted about 300 acres of corn and soil conditions improved significantly after a weekend storm system. “Soil temperatures dipped a little bit yesterday with the front that pushed through.  Moisture is looking good.  I’ve seen a few guys who’ve had some seeds in the ground awhile, and they’ve already germinated out.”

And, one it dries out, “(And) we get a good couple of dry days in a row here, we might be getting the bean planter out, too.”

Bredemeier says the region received about 0.5-1 inch of rain this weekend, but most of the area is still in a classification of drought.
