Kentucky crops: corn, soybeans 2% planted

Planting is just getting started in Kentucky, and pasture conditions are better than expected.

Corn and soybeans are 2 percent planted.  Tobacco transplants are 35 percent seeded. Winter wheat is 1 percent headed with 88 percent of the crop rated good to excellent. Pastures are rated 67 percent good to excellent.

While limited, there has been some light freeze damage to both winter wheat at alfalfa.

Currently, most of Western Kentucky is considered abnormally dry, but 72 percent of topsoil moisture and 71 percent of subsoil moisture are listed as adequate to surplus.
