Kentucky crops: harvest for corn, soybeans continues to pick up pace

Harvest for corn and soybeans continues to pick up pace, but both are behind last year and the 5-year average. 

Corn harvest is 59% complete and 91% mature.  Soybean harvest is 27% complete with 65% dropping leaves and 69% rated good to excellent.  

Tobacco is 96% cut and 17% stripped, with 42% of the housed tobacco in good to excellent condition.

Winter wheat is 9% planted with 1% emerged.

Pasture conditions have been on the decline and just 33% is rated good to excellent.    

Topsoil is 53% adequate and 3% surplus and subsoil is 53% adequate and 2% surplus.
