Land O’Lakes Farm Bowl a success

Officials involved with the event are calling the Land O’Lakes Farm Bowl a big success.

As millions flocked to the Twin Cities for Super Bowl 52, the agribusiness and food giant based in the Minneapolis suburbs organized a skills competition featuring farmers and professional football players to shed light on modern agriculture.

Former Green Bay Packer and Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Greg Jennings says with grandparents who farmed, he’s now seen two completely different ends of the spectrum.

“Farming has come so far.  It’s evolved (and) modernized to make the farmer’s job a lot easier.”

The Farm Bowl–held Thursday on the University of Minnesota campus–asked competitors to fly drones, change tractor tires, stack hay bales, and move 500 pounds of feed in an endurance challenge.

Central Minnesota dairy farmer Craig Roerick participated and says bringing attention to agriculture helps erase certain misconceptions.

“And with technologies like drones, GPS, and things like that, there’s a great platform for young people to get into agriculture.”

Current Vikings receiver Stefon Diggs and California farmer JJ Nunes won the Farm Bowl competition.
