Lawmakers call for assistance to depopulate hog herds

There are more calls for the federal government to assist pork producers who are being forced to depopulate their herds.  

A group of 13 U.S. Senators is asking Congressional leaders to prioritize funding for an indemnity program. They say the assistance is needed for the humane euthanization and disposal of animals.

A group of lawmakers in the U.S. House is asking the Federal Emergency Management Administration to get involved. They want FEMA to reimburse “depopulation” costs under Category B of the agency’s public assistance program.
