March 15th deadlines approach

Farmers have just a few days left to finalize their crop insurance decisions.

Doug Yoder, crop insurance specialist at Country Financial, tells Brownfield…

“March 15th is the annual deadline to sign up for their crop insurance decisions for the 2024 crop year,” he says, “and also to make that all important farm bill decision with the FSA office by March 15th as well.”

He says farmers should take the lower commodity prices into consideration….

“Farmers are gonna see much lower guarantees per acre than they’ve been used to the last couple of years.”  He says, “I just want them to run their numbers, make sure they understand what that does to their guarantees, and is that sufficient with the amount of risk they’re facing.”

Yoder says some producers may need to consider supplemental coverage this year.

Farmers need to make their crop insurance and farm bill program selections before Friday’s deadline.
