Michigan crop condition continues to diverge

A second week of warm weather in Michigan continued to divide crop conditions.

The USDA says the state’s corn crop condition improved a point to 43 percent good to excellent and 20 percent of the crop is silking.

Soybeans are 42 percent blooming, 15 percent setting pods and condition declined five points to 41 percent good to excellent.

The wheat crop is now 86 percent mature, 45 percent harvested, and condition improved to 47 percent good to excellent.

Dry beans are 90 percent emerged, 18 percent blooming and rated 57 percent good to excellent.  Sugarbeet condition is 60 percent good to excellent. The second cutting of alfalfa is nearly halfway complete.

Harvest of planted sweet corn, zucchini, peas, tomatoes, cole crops and cucumbers is ongoing. Fruit damage from last week’s storms appears minimal.  Harvest of blueberries and tart cherries continues, and early peaches harvest is underway.
