Michigan invests $1.4 million in rural communities
The Michigan Department of Agriculture has announced $1.4 million will be invested in 20 rural development grants to improve infrastructure and land-based industries.
Nine projects were awarded $100,000 with investments ranging from improving the county of Marquette’s airport, farm employee housing, to a brewhouse expansion and building a research center.
Other grants supported improvements to wastewater treatment facilities, specialty crop and food expansions and community restoration projects. Preference was given to Marquette County during this grant cycle which leveraged more than $2.3 million in matching funds.
More than 110 proposals were submitted to the department requesting more than $8.4 million.
