Minnesota Ag Commissioner thankful for turkey growers

The top ag official for the number one turkey producing state in the country suggests Thanksgiving is a great time for reflection.

Minnesota Department of Agriculture Commissioner Thom Petersen tells Brownfield about 20 percent of the turkeys produced in the U.S. come from Minnesota.

“It’s a holiday that’s focused on the meal, and to think about how (the food) is produced and all the work that goes into it. And thank goodness we’ve had a nice fall and been able to get that crop harvested, and really appreciate all of our turkey growers.”

Who he says have faced some challenges this year with highly pathogenic avian influenza.

“So we think about our turkey growers and farmers across the state and really thank them for all their hard work as we go into the holiday.”

Petersen says the turkey industry is a billion-dollar industry in Minnesota.
