Minnesota Extension using model cow to help improve calving
There are a range of tools designed to improve calving.
University of Minnesota Extension educator Dr. Joe Armstrong says they are using a new cow model to help producers become more independent.
“We’re helping them learn about calf position and how to help an animal that’s calving and something’s gone wrong.”
He tells Brownfield the full-sized cow model has a removable top so a calf can be put in any position.
“And people can see what position the calf is in, or we can cover it up and they can just work from the back to try to see what’s going on from the back.”
Armstrong says learning theses management skills is extremely valuable when there’s no veterinarian on site.
