Minnesota farmer cuts where he can as margins tighten

A southwest Minnesota corn and soybean grower is finding areas to cut back as margins tighten.

Bryan Biegler of Lake Wilson says he won’t be doing as many trials this year.

“Trying some different trials on different products, cutting some of that stuff out. I don’t feel like putting extra money into that this year.”

He tells Brownfield he’s not making major changes with primary inputs.

“Seed and chemical and stuff, that’s still pretty much status quo. Maybe looked around a little bit more for some chemical, a little more generic stuff, to cheapen the cost up a bit on that.”

Biegler says with commodity prices being down he’s hoping strong yields will help boost profits.
