Minnesota farmer gets creative with feedstuffs

A Minnesota cow/calf farmer is getting creative to ensure his cattle remain well fed.

Brady Wulf of Hancock says forage availability will be a concern the rest of the year because of poor spring weather.

“It just drives you too be more innovative.”

He tells Brownfield he used to believe corn silage was the only option for feeding cattle overwinter.

“But we’re starting to graze cover crops all the way into January. We do oat and pealage, we plant oats and peas together and chop it. Just trying to find different, cheaper feedstuffs besides corn.”

Wulf says the wet weather has helped green up pastures and that grass is growing like crazy.
