Minnesota farmer says 4″ of rain “came down about as nice as it could”

More than four inches of rain fell in some parts of Minnesota over the weekend.

Brent Mohn, a corn and soybean grower from Lakeville in the southeastern part of the state, says his gauge showed 4.6 inches.

“Which is more than we technically needed, but there’s always a caveat. It actually came down about as nice as it could.”

He tells Brownfield rain totals like that tend to accumulate fast and cause problems for the soil.

“Whether it’s erosion, ponding, or just damage. We didn’t really have too much of that. There’s obviously some ponding in some areas that don’t drain as fast, but really little to no erosion. And it was time for a drink.”

Mohn says the only field he has left to plant is being tiled.  Some of his corn already has three leaves, and most of his soybeans are poking through.
