Minnesota Farmers Union welcomes Biden administration rural investments

The president of Minnesota Farmers Union is thanking the Biden administration for new investments in rural America.

Speaking to Brownfield during President Biden’s appearance at a family farm near Northfield, Minnesota Wednesday, Gary Wertish said the more than $5 billion will make a big difference.

“We’re very excited about it because obviously the various bills and stuff the administration has accomplished, there is a lot of funding opportunity for rural America. Whether you’re a farmer on the farm or a rural electric cooperative, there’s a lot of good things (happening), a lot of investment.”

He tells Brownfield there will be conservation opportunities for farmers.

“Whether it’s changing a practice on a farm or whatever it is, there’s the REAP program, a lot of stuff available. Every farmer keeps looking at his farm and how he can do things better, and here’s an opportunity that maybe there are things that will help unlock more potential for rural America.”

The Biden administration is making $1.7 billion available to support the adoption of climate-smart agriculture practices like reduced tillage and cover crops.
