Minnesota Governor mixed on E15 rule

The governor of one of eight Midwest states that petitioned EPA to allow the sale of E15 year-round says he’s grateful the rule has been announced but is disappointed it won’t go into effect until 2025.

Tim Walz of Minnesota tells Brownfield he’s hopeful an emergency waiver will be issued for this summer.

“It is a step forward, we’re glad of that. I don’t want to be too pessimistic, but I kind of was hoping we’d get this thing kicked in for this right away, but we’ll keep working at it.”

He says when governors speak with a unified voice, it makes a difference.

“We need our congressional delegation to get behind this (and) I think here in Minnesota, we do have strong bipartisan support, which I’m grateful for. And I’m glad the administration moved on this. Again, I’m hopeful that the emergency waivers where we need them between now and 2025 will be there. But it does bode well.”

The petition was issued in 2022 by the governors of Minnesota, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
