Minnesota small grains planting pacing ahead of normal

Small grains planting is off to a fast start in Minnesota.

The latest weekly crop report from USDA says spring wheat is seven percent planted, more than two weeks ahead of last year and nearly a week faster than the five-year average.

Oat planting is 19 percent complete, 10 days faster than a year ago and nine days ahead of normal.

There were also scattered reports of barley, potato, and sugarbeet planting.

Pastures are greening up, with the majority rated fair to good.
