Minnesota’s farmers over halfway harvesting corn silage

Dry conditions continue to impact crops in Minnesota.  USDA reporters say only 25% of the state’s topsoil has adequate moisture, with 44% short and 31% very short of moisture.

Eighty-six percent of Minnesota’s corn has reached the dent stage, about a week ahead of average.  Thirty-seven percent of the crop is mature, and 1% of that corn for grain has been harvested.  Just 39% of the state’s corn is rated good to excellent.  The corn silage harvest is well underway with 60% of the silage now harvested.

Sixty-seven percent of the state’s soybeans are turning color with 31% starting to drop leaves.  Forty-five percent of Minnesota’s soybeans are in good to excellent condition.

Eighty-five percent of the dry edible beans are dropping leaves with 18% of the crop now harvested.  Eight percent of Minnesota’s sugarbeets are harvested with 93% of them in good to excellent condition.

Twenty-nine percent of the potatoes, 95% of the barley, and 94% of the spring wheat are also harvested.

Fifty-nine percent of the sunflower crop is in good to excellent condition.
