MO eminent domain legislation passes House committee

The Missouri House Judiciary Committee has passed eminent domain reform legislation on to the House. The bill, sponsored by Representative Mike Haffner, would limit the ability of private groups from using eminent domain to acquire land.

The Missouri Cattlemen’s Association is applauding the move. Missouri Cattlemen’s Executive Vice President Mike Deering says eminent domain was intended to be a last resort but has become the first option for private companies to acquire ‘cheap’ land.

The legislation passed committee by a 5 – 4 vote and Deering is urging quick passage of the bill.
