MU’s Dr. Pengyin Chen honored by ASA

The American Soybean Association is recognizing the University of Missouri’s Dr. Pengyin Chen for his work in soybean breeding.

Dr. Chen is receiving the association’s Pinnacle Award given for his high level of contribution to soybeans over several years. Dr. Chen has developed more than 30 row crop and food grade varieties of the crop since the 1980s.

ASA Vice President Brad Doyle calls Dr. Chen a trailblazer in soybean research and breeding. He says Dr. Chen’s contributions are a cornerstone to the progress seen in the industry today. ASA says Dr. Chen was on the team of researchers that developed the Hutcheson soybean which is the ancestor to nearly 80 percent of the soybean varieties grown in the South.
