NASCAR driver sees parallels between farming and racing

The No. 14 DEKALB® brand Ford Fusion race car debuted at the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race weekend Oct. 19-21 at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas.  NASCAR driver Clint Bowyer drove the DEKALB brand car to a 13th place finish.

Bowyer told Brownfield there was a great deal of pride in having the DEKALB brand on his hot rod.  Growing up in Kansas, he said farming had a great impact on him and the relationship he has with farmers has continued throughout his life.

“I grew up in the Midwest in the heart of farming in Emporia, Kansas, right between Kansas City and Wichita and farming definitely had an impact on my life.  As I’ve grown up racing, all these years, all these different tracks across the country, the one thing that always stood out to me is with our fan base, the number of farmers that come to our races.  Whether it was a dirt track that I was growing up on at the weekly racing level, to the 2-ring level, I was literally competing against one as a racer or as an owner of a race car; or I was shaking the hand of one or selling a t-shirt to a farmer.”

Bowyer told Brownfield there are many parallels to racing and farming.  He said it takes a great product like DEKALB and the Ford Fusion and team of experts standing behind you like a pit crew or agronomic experts.

In addition to driving the Number 14 Ford Fusion for Stewart-Haas Racing, Bowyer oversees his 650-acre farm in North Carolina.

In a statement released by Bayer Crop Science, owner of DEKALB brand, Bowyer said racing the No. 14 DEKALB brand Ford Fusion on the track for the first time was a lot of fun.

“I have a lot of respect for farmers and the time, energy and incredible attention to detail farming takes. DEKALB understands all of that, and they know what farmers need. It’s really is an honor to represent DEKALB.”
