National FFA president reflects on her year of service

The 91st National FFA Convention begins today, and the National FFA president is reflecting on her year of service.

At the beginning of her term,  Breanna Holbert told Brownfield she was most looking forward to meeting FFA members and letting them know there is a place for them in the organization.

Almost a year later, the California native says meeting students across the country has changed her life.

She recalls a trip to Georgia…

“There was a student in the very front who came up to me after I was done speaking and said, ‘you give me so much hope,'” she says. “She was a fellow female African American student and to this day I’m blown away by the fact that just one word from me could impact her.”

This year’s convention theme is “Just One.” Holbert says if it wasn’t for “just one” person, her ag teacher, she wouldn’t be in FFA.

“If she didn’t walk up to me that first day of my agriculture class and tell me ‘you have so much potential,’ I wouldn’t be here,” she says.

Holbert is the first African American female to be elected as president of the National FFA Organization.
