NCGA fights to protect ethanol as it promotes new uses for corn

CEO Chris Novak tells Brownfield NCGA and other groups filed their petition this week with the EPA to force it to make up for lost biofuels volumes because of inappropriate waivers given to refiners, “We fully expect EPA to deny that petition, deny that request that we have filed. And, yet, then that is the next step in our legal process where we will turn to the court.”

Meanwhile the Corn Utilization Conference is in full swing, in its 30th year, “It’s exciting to actually look past the fights in Washington to what we know is the future of this industry.”And part of that future, Novak says, is biorenewable chemistries from corn, “Whether that’s directly from the corn plant, whether it’s from the corn kernel as we’re using today to produce ethanol. Or, whether or not we’re looking at ethanol and finding ways to replace petro chemical ingredients and compounds with renewable compounds.”
