New soil testing and research lab construction begins soon

Construction on the new Roy Blunt Soil Testing and Research Lab in the Bootheel of Missouri will begin this spring.

The new $4.6 million facility will provide soil, water and plant-tissue testing for farmers across the region and be a lab for University of Missouri Extension’s rice production and entomology research programs.

The testing services offered by the new lab haven’t been available before to farmers in this area of Missouri.

A groundbreaking was held this week at the location of the new facility in Portageville, Missouri.
