Next generation fuels act still waiting on a hearing

The CEO of the Missouri Corn Growers Association says he’s optimistic the Next Generation Fuels Act will get attention from lawmakers as they return to Washington D.C. following the August recess.

Bradley Schad says the legislation would phase higher blends of ethanol into gasoline, reduce prices at the pump for consumers and ensure there are options when purchasing vehicles through model year 2026.

“Right now, the current administration is pushing for an all electric vehicle mandate and we can’t have that. It doesn’t work for our growers, because it is too difficult for our farmers to work out.”

He says ethanol is a low carbon fuel that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Schad tells Brownfield support is building in the House for the legislation and there’s a companion bill in the Senate, but no hearings have been scheduled yet.

Missouri Corn is in Washington D.C. this week as part of a National Corn Growers Association Fly-In.
