NFU says USMCA has positives and negatives

The president of the National Farmers Union says the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement (USMCA) has positive provisions for agriculture but also some negatives, “It doesn’t fix the food labeling thing. We think this is going to be increasingly important. Consumers, more and more, want to know where their food is coming from and we think Country of Origin Labeling ought to be legally permitted under trade agreements.”

Roger Johnson says the renegotiated NAFTA does nothing to allow Country of Origin Labeling to be permitted.

Among the positives in the USMCA – according to Johnson – are the wage provisions which would help with jobs in the U.S., but he’s concerned there’s no way to enforce them within the agreement.
