A night of Champions
Sunday was a big night in the swine barn. There were over 2,000 hogs shown in the Indiana State Fair Junior Swine barn over the weekend and just two – one gilt and one barrow – were selected Champion. Troy Michael’s crossbred gilt was selected grand champion. The 15-year-old from North Manchester said the highlight of his day came when he was showing for division champion. “He called her a beast,” he says. “That was my favorite part of the day.”
Michaels says he hope to continue raising showpigs for years into the future.

This isn’t the first time in the champion drive for Cole Wilcox, a 15-year old from Lawrence County. “My heart was beating so hard,” he says. “I won the steer show last year and then winning this is a dream come true. This was amazing.”
Wilcox’s Duroc barrow took the night’s top hog prize.
