NMPF says FMMO review will be thorough

The head of the National Milk Producers Federation says work continues on an in-depth review and modernization of the Federal Milk Marking Order system.

CEO Jim Mulhern says it could be a multi-year process before the industry is ready for a national federal order hearing and industry consensus is made on a solution.

Mulhern says after an initial 18 months on the issue, board members this past month met to determine what areas should be further examined to address the needs of producers in all regions.

Their organization is working with its members, USDA, and interested parties on technical issues within the order.

Taskforce workgroups plan to report considerations to the NMPF’s Economic Policy Committee which will then make final recommendations to the executive committee and board.
