No big surprises expected in Friday’s Hogs and Pigs report

The USDA releases its Quarterly Hogs and Pigs report on Friday and University of Missouri livestock economist Ron Plain says he doesn’t expect any big surprises for the second quarter of this year.

“My expectation is that they’re going to tell us the swine herd is very close to a year ago in size,” he says.  “I’m looking for same to a bit higher as far as market hog inventories and maybe a tad bit smaller on the sow side of things.”

The report comes out Friday at 3 Eastern.
