NPPC president hopeful SCOTUS ruling on Prop 12 could come yet this year

The National Pork Producers Council is hopeful the Supreme Court case on Proposition 12 could be over by the end of the year.

NPPC president Terry Wolters, a pork producer from Pipestone in southwest Minnesota, tells Brownfield the High Court will likely take oral briefings beginning early next month.

“And then ultimately we hope that by late October or somewhere around November timeframe, that we have a chance to actually argue the case.”

If that occurs, he says an outcome could be reached by December.

“Once again, we don’t feel like we are being treated fairly with this case and hopefully we get a better outcome by going to the Supreme Court.”

The Supreme Court decision to hear the case overturns the precedent set when the Ninth Circuit ruled the Dormant Commerce Clause no longer exists.
