NPPC applauds improvements to Mandatory Price Reporting

The National Pork Producers Council is applauding improvements to Mandatory Price Reporting following its reauthorization last fall.

Domestic issues manager Dustin Baker says comments submitted by NPPC in February better reflect the industry today.

“One of those was a negotiated formula purchase category, and the other was late-in-the-day purchases being included in the next day’s morning and afternoon reports.”

He tells Brownfield the changes proposed by NPPC provide another layer of risk protection at a time of increasing volatility.

“We think this will help give more timely, accurate and transparent information to the market participants.  Anytime that you are providing more information, you get closer to that perfect information status.”

He says packers will be able to better disseminate information, and it does not require wholesale changes at the plants.

Brownfield spoke to Baker at World Pork Expo in Des Moines.
