OCM applauds senators for seeking JBS probe

The director of the Organization for Competitive Markets (OCM) applauds Senators Rubio and Menendez for calling for an investigation into JBS-S.A.

Joe Maxwell tells Brownfield Ag News that JBS has a “horrible” track record that OCM has tracked for the past year, “They have short paid cattle producers in at least three states, claiming that it was a glitch in their software. They comingled cattle in Grand Island, Nebraska and stole money, in our opinion, from the cattle producers.”

Maxwell says JBS is a powerful political influencer in the U.S.

“They know how to play politics, all the way up to bribing 18-hundred politicians in Brazil to get the capital they wanted to come in and take over the U.S. beef market.”

Maxwell says it takes great courage for the senators to take on the political power of a monopoly like JBS. The senators have asked Treasury Secretary Mnuchin for an open review of JBS transactions.

Brownfield Ag News has reached out to JBS for comment.
