ODA to begin gypsy moth treatments

Aerial treatments designed to control the gypsy moth population in Ohio are scheduled to begin when larva and leaf development reaches the optimal threshold for treatment, most likely during the first two weeks of May.

According to the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA), treatment will most likely occur during early morning hours. The treatment is not harmful to humans, pets, birds or fish.

Three counties are scheduled for treatment, 80 acres in Champaign County and 3,380 acres in Ross and Vinton Counties.

Gypsy moths are invasive insects that defoliate trees and shrubs. In Ohio, 51 counties are currently

under gypsy moth quarantine regulations.
