Ohio Farm Bureau outlines new strategic plan in preparation for 100th anniversary

The executive vice president of the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation says the group has created a new two-year strategic plan as it prepares for its 100th anniversary in 2019.

Adam Sharp says farmers are most concerned about advocacy, which is why it is the main objective in the strategic plan.

“While we’re out doing our work and trying to protect, grow, and develop our businesses, we want Farm Bureau to be looking out for us in government actions, with the media, and with the public,” he says.

He tells Brownfield the members also want a unified message for agriculture to be a priority.

“Farmers on all walks are coming together on issues,” he says. “Somebody has to do that and that’s what we’re structured to do- to bring together those ideas collectively and as we set policy we vote on it.”

Financial strength, strategic partnerships, membership, and communication, are also part of the strategic plan.

“We’re going to set our budget and spend our money in those specific areas and that’s important because our money is our member’s money,” he says. “We want to make sure they see exactly where their dollars are going to go to be spent and what the Farm Bureau is going to do for them.”

The strategic plan was unveiled during the 99th annual Ohio Farm Bureau Convention in Columbus.
