Ohio farmers see harvest progress

With just over 4 days of suitable weather last week, Ohio farmers picked the pace up, as both corn and soybean harvest in Ohio advanced by 16 points.

The Ohio field office of the National Ag Statistics Service (NASS) reports that as of Sunday, November 6, corn harvest was 34 percent complete, compared to 18 percent a week earlier. The condition of the corn improved from a week ago, with 75 percent of the crop in fair-to-good condition.

A week ago, soybean harvest was 51 percent complete, as of Sunday, harvest progress had advanced to 67 percent, still well behind the 92 percent 5-year average.

83 percent of the winter wheat has been planted, 48 percent of crop has emerged. The condition of the Ohio wheat crop improved from a week earlier with 88 percent now in the fair-to good category.

Other Ohio crops:

Fourth cutting alfalfa was 90 percent complete, 10 points behind average.

Fall and winter apples were 92 percent harvested, six percent behind the 5-year average.

Grape harvest was 88 percent complete, 98 percent is average.

Topsoil moisture 100 percent adequate to surplus.
