Oklahoma passes alternative meat labeling bill

Oklahoma is the latest state to pass a meat labeling bill. The state’s governor has signed the Oklahoma Meat Consumer Protection Act into law.

It sets regulations and standards for alternative meat product packaging and advertising.

The Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association brought the bill to the state legislature. It will require companies that sell plant-based proteins to use words such as “vegetarian” or “plant-based” on the label, the same size as the name of the product.
