Organic poultry farm study surprises researchers

A new study shows a lower prevalence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria on several U.S. poultry farms – when they transitioned from conventional poultry practices to organic production. The authors of the study, led by the University of Maryland’s School of Public Health, say they were surprised by the results. The differences were more dramatic than they expected in several different classes of antibiotics.
