Past USGC chair confident U.S. “wins out” in Mexico GM corn dispute

A leader with the U.S. Grains Council expects a favorable outcome to Mexico’s proposed ban of biotech corn.

West-central Minnesota farmer Chad Willis served as USGC chairman in 2022 and says science is on the side of U.S. corn growers.

“It’s just a matter of time, it’s in the trade agreement. And as long as the U.S. keeps pushing that I think we’ll win out in the long run.”

He tells Brownfield USGC welcomes efforts by the U.S. Trade Representative to resolve the issue.

“They work in their own ways and U.S. Grains stands behind what they do at this time. It’s a very intricate battle of what’s going on there.”

Willis was recently selected to represent USGC on MAIZALL’s board of directors.

MAIZALL was established in 2013 by leaders of USGC, the National Corn Growers Association, and corn grower groups in Brazil and Argentina to resolve shared problems with non-tariff barriers in global markets.
