Pizza Hut increases cheese on pan pizzas by 25%

Pizza Hut has increased the amount of cheese on its pan pizzas by 25 percent.

California dairy farmer Brad Scott, who chairs the national dairy checkoff board, says that move will require an additional 150 million pounds of milk annually to produce the extra cheese.  And Scott says it may cause other pizza makers to follow suit.

“When one of those prominent companies make a change and they show how the customers are having a better experience by incorporating more dairy on their menus, some of their competitors see it and they go, ‘hey, we want to be like them’,” Scott says. “We’ve seen it many times, where they’ll start following suit, because they watch their competition.”

Dairy checkoff-funded research helped convince Pizza Hut that consumers want more cheese on their pizza.

Scott talked with Brownfield at the recent Nebraska Dairy Convention in Columbus.
