New rail service will strengthen Indiana agriculture

Intermodal Rail Road service is headed to Indianapolis.  Rich Cooper, Chief Executive Officer for Ports of Indiana says the new service creates non-stop service between Indiana and Asia and that’s just one of the highlights of this year’s Indiana Logistics Summit.

He tells Brownfield now that the containers are terminating in Indiana that creates an opportunity to create what he calls a “back haul” to the Asian market.  “As I understand it – that is already occurring at the Indiana Rail Road’s Seventh Avenue terminal,” he says.  “They are back-hauling distillers dried grains and some other ag commodities here in Indianapolis and going to be put on that train that is going back to the west coast and then loaded to a ship going back to Asia.”

The 11th Annual Summit concluded Thursday with Governor Mike Pence’s keynote address.
