Rains welcome as harvest remains ahead of normal in Minnesota

Minnesota farmers welcomed widespread rain last week.

USDA’s latest crop update says soil moisture supplies were somewhat recharged, but less than 40 percent of subsoil is rated adequate to surplus.

The harvest pace maintained its lead over the five-year average, with 45 percent of the corn crop and 76 percent of soybeans harvested.

The moisture content for corn being harvested is averaging 19 percent.

The dry edible bean harvest is wrapping up, potatoes are 92 percent harvested, and the sugarbeet harvest is progressing faster than normal at 61 percent complete as of Sunday.
