Retroactive dairy insurance signup opening

Starting March 25th, dairy farmers will be able to retroactively sign up for the 2018 Dairy Margin Protection Program if they chose to participate in the Livestock Gross Margin for Dairy Cattle Program in 2018.

Farm Service Agency Administrator Richard Fordyce says changes in the 2018 Farm Bill allow for producers to be eligible for both programs backtracking to the start of 2018.

This retroactive sign-up runs through May 10th and is only for farmers with 2018 LGM coverage who produced and marketed milk in 2018 but did not elect full year MPP-Dairy coverage.

Program payments for farmers enrolled at the $8 coverage level are available for eight months of 2018.  As of December 10, 2018, more than $250 million in payments were processed by FSA.
