RFS waivers likely to be a Husker Harvest Days topic

The EPA’s RFS waivers are likely to be a topic of conversation among farmers at this week’s Husker Harvest Days near Grand Island, Nebraska.

The Nebraska Corn Board and Corn Growers Association created quite a stir last month with a news release headlined, “Nebraska corn farmers outraged by Trump’s broken promises”. It was in reaction to the Trump Administration’s RFS waivers.

Nebraska Corn executive director Kelly Brunkhorst says they received a lot of positive feedback on that news release.

“We started hearing from a number of other farmers saying, ‘yes, thank you for taking the opportunity to verbally says what we’re really starting to feel internally’,” Brunkhorst says. “I think a lot of frustration really kind of hit that tipping point when we saw the 31 Small Refinery Exemptions that the Trump Administration had approved.”

The news release was picked by many national news organizations and political pundits, who cited it as evidence that farmers might be turning against President Trump.

If you want to discuss the RFS waivers or other issues with leaders of the Nebraska corn groups, you’ll find them in the Commodity Building at Husker Harvest Days.

The three-day farm show gets underway on Tuesday morning.
